Outsourcing of on-site or off-site coke production has become an increasingly attractive option for many steelmakers. SunCoke Energy brings a flexible business model and the technical and operating expertise to build, own, and/or operate a coke plant to meet customer needs. Our technical consultation and support services help deliver an overall positive customer experience.
Low Cost Delivers Competitive Pricing
Our cost structure allows us to offer our steel-making customers excellent value at competitive prices.
- Design & Construction: Our advanced ovens offer a simpler design that uses just 115 brick shapes in construction, compared with over 1,750 for chemical by-product ovens, thereby reducing construction time and costs.
- Coal: Our horizontal design allows the SunCoke Energy ovens to accept almost any type of coking coal, including expanding coal. This coal blend flexibility yields high quality coke at low cost.
- Staffing: Our coke plants require substantially fewer staff than required by other cokemaking facilities. For example, our Gateway facility employs approximately 85 employees for direct operations and maintenance, whereas a by-product facility of comparable size would employ more than 120 employees.
- Repairs & Maintenance: We believe simplicity and reliability of our oven and machinery designs substantially reduce maintenance costs.
