GECC Trust
In 2008, U.S. Steel and SunCoke Energy worked closely with the environmental stakeholders to establish a number of benchmarks to further demonstrate the joint commitment to environmental stewardship. Both companies have gone beyond compliance by taking additional steps to monitor and reduce emissions at existing facilities. In a landmark settlement agreement with American Bottom Conservancy and Sierra Club, the companies also created a trust fund for area projects that promote environmental conservancy.
MCC Community Advisory Panel
A community advisory panel (CAP) was established at the SunCoke’s Middletown Coke Company project in Middletown, Ohio in June 2010. A community advisory panel is a group of volunteers -- residents and business owners who reflect the community as a whole along with key company managers from SunCoke. A CAP is created by companies as a forum for open dialogue about issues of mutual interest or concern to the facility and the community. A CAP reflects the various stakeholder groups in the community. Through the CAP, regular, two-way communication occurs between the residents and managers at the local facilities. The goal of the CAP to provide a forum to share information, to answer questions and to provide advice. The Middletown CAP is conducted by an independent third party facilitator.
